Problem: Off late Xcelsius 2008 users were complaining about an issue which does not allow them to launch the application. The system returns with the Dialog box which says “Problem Accessing Excel: Exiting”. Below is a Screenshot of the same:
This issue occurs when Xcelsius is not shut down properly. Sometimes Xcelsius does not respond for a long time and then autmatically shuts down. In such scenario, when you try to launch the application again, it gives you the above error.
Fix: Open the Task Manager window and Kill all the Excel Processes running. Then try launching the application. Voila.
User Submitted Fix:
- Go to program files and find “Microsoft Office” usually found at C:\Program Files\
- Right click on “Microsoft Office” and select security Tab.
- Go to “Edit Security” and “Add” permission for “Every one” with full control
I know that is bit risky to allow every one full control to my office application. but i just tried and it worked .
I am not sure if steps for winXP SP3 are same or not.
Hope this helps.

No, this did not help either. I have been in contact with Xcelsius customer support. They suggested re-installing Xcelsius, which also did not help. A bit frustrating purchasing a program that doesn’t work.
I have also just downloaded xcelsius 2008. It fails to start. Re-install does not work and I have been unable to begin trial.
Customer support do not have an answer.
We have decided to trial a similar product. This is the first time I have encountered a product for trial that will not even start.
@John:
What is the issue? Do you get any error message. If you can share some screen shots, I can try.

Kalyan,
Not sure what’s misunderstood with any of
the posters messages. I have the same thing
going on and it’s pretty obvious that there’s
a registry value corrupted somewhere. I have
reinstalled this product along with Office 2003
and am having the same issue. It’s ridiculous.
Even support has no clue as far as a solution
is concerned.

Just try this:
Start > Run > Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
Roberto
I’m having the same issues as previous posters regarding the “server is busy” error messages. I’ve tried nearly every suggested solution listed on this site (and others) and have had no success with any of them. Just tried “Start > Run > Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll” as Roberto suggested. Didn’t change anything.
I was having problems with the trial version originally. The program would open, and I designed a dashboard, but when I would try to re-import the spreadsheet I got the error message. After reading many various posts on several websites, it appeared that the issue might be that the spreadsheet I was using was too complex. (It had lots of references between sheets, color coding, etc.) I redesigned the spreadsheet from scratch, making sure everything was laid out in as simple of a design as possible. In the meantime, my trial ran out. So, I PURCHASED this software thinking that my new spreadsheet would surely work. NOT !!!! So now I’ve got $200 invested in something that seems to be totally useless to me.
I’m using Vista and Office 2007. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this issue.
Thanks.
I have similiar problems some times. I have the following error all the time though. If I open Manage Add-ons, the computer completely locks up. The power has to be removed to recover it. I am using Vista and a tablet PC. I believe that some of these items might be tablet related, is anyone else using a tablet.
This is regarding the Xcelcius Server busy error that I was getting. Everytime I tried importing an Excel document in Xcelcius, it gave me a message of “Server Busy” with options of Switch To and Retry. None of these worked. I got a way to workaround this, which is as follows:
1) Press Contrl+Alt+Del (Task Manager)
2)On the Applications Tab, there would be an Application named Microsoft Compatability Checker. Right click on that application
3) Click “Switch To” in the drop down
4) You will get a pop-up, saying “Significant loss of functionality”
5) Click on Continue
6) Click on Retry again, you will get the excel imported
Enjoi!!!
Worked like a charm.
Thank you Ab.
Thanks ab – saved me a lot of headaches
Xcelcius Server busy error – Solution

Answer:
As a best practice, make sure that you have copies saved whenever you make a major change. Save them as versions.
Check you system memory (RAM). Although the minimum requirements are 512MB, I would recommend at least a 2GB RAM on PCs using Xcelsius. Try to bump up the RAM or use the XLF on an existing PC with 2GB or more RAM.
Hi,
I have created a XLF file. Today to my surprise it is not opening. It is giving an error “Crystal xcelsius is unable to load this file. this file may be corrupt or have features that cannot be supported by this version of crystal reports”. Once press on OK then it gives “Problem Accessing Excel: Exiting”
I tried giving “Full control” to ‘Everyone’, tried to Re-Install Xcelsius Present 2008. Still not able to open a file.
NOTE: i am able to load another file.
Can abyone let me know the remedy?
The file is corrupt. I hope you have another saved copy elsewhere.
I am having the same problem. I can open Xcelsius and create a dashboard but once I save and exit I can not re-open the file or any other .xlf file. I get the error “Problem accessing Excel: Exiting” and then “Crystal Xcelsius is unable to load this file. This file may be corrupt or have features that cannot be supported by this version of Crystal Xcelsius.”
I’ve tried all of the above suggestions with no luck. The file is not corrupt since I’ve also tried to open other files that co-workers can open. I’m running Windows XP, Xcelsius 2008 and Office 2007.
I was getting this error on a new install. I tried the permission change on the MS Office folder but that did not fix the problem. Then I tried
Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
and this allowed Xcelcius to start.
Doing testing for US Army on Xcelsius application for possible purchase and downloaded the trial for Xcelsius Present 2008. After installing I keep getting an error saying “An error occured while communicating with Microsoft Excel. To prevent further data corruption, Xcelsius must close.” I’ve attempted to install on several machines. Running Windows XP Pro baseline with Office 2007. I have admin rights on the box and even went in and set permissions to full for all users in the security tab under properties of ms office folder in program files.
@US Army:
Ever get an answer. I have same issue as you. When I close it and look in Task Manager/Processes I see Excel.exe is running. I kill it. It doesn’t seem to fix the problem.
I am using Win 7 Pro x64, Office 2007, Xcelsius Present 5.3.0.0 Build# 12,3,0,670
Win 7 and Office 2007 all up to date on patches as of 6/7/2010.
Not sure if this helps, here is what I look at the Problem Details.
Microsoft Office Excel has stopped working.
